Manage your stake

My Staking: your delegations, undelegating, the unbonding wait and claiming.

Manage your stake

My Staking is your own position on the chain, and it appears in the header once your wallet is connected. Nothing on it is stored by the site: every figure is read from the staking contracts for the address you connected, so switching accounts in your wallet switches the whole page.

The three figures

Tile What it is
Delegated What you have staked right now, across every validator, rewards included
Undelegating What you have asked back and is still waiting out the unbonding period
Ready to Claim What has finished unbonding and is waiting for you to take it

Next to them stands your wallet: your address, and the balance that is free to spend or delegate.

Your Delegated figure grows on its own. Rewards are added to the validator's pool rather than paid out, so your share is worth more over time without you doing anything. There is nothing to claim while you are staking.

Undelegating

Under My Delegations you get one row per validator you back, with what you have staked there and a field to take some of it back. Max fills in the whole amount. The site refuses an amount larger than what you have with that validator.

Undelegate sends one transaction. The coins do not come back to your wallet: they move into Undelegating and wait out the unbonding period, which the site puts at seven days. That wait is deliberate: it stops a validator misbehaving and letting its backers escape before the punishment lands.

Coins that are unbonding are out of the validator's pool, so they stop earning the moment you undelegate.

Claiming

Once the wait is over the amount moves into Ready to Claim and a bar appears offering Claim. One transaction takes everything that is claimable, across every validator at once, back into your wallet.

Nothing expires. Coins that are ready to claim sit there until you take them.

Your history

Two tabs at the bottom of the page.

Reward History is a chart of what you earned per day. It is empty until your first full day of staking, because rewards only start accruing at the UTC midnight after you delegate.

Staking History is the list of everything you have done: delegations, undelegations and claims, ten to a page, each with the validator, the amount, the moment it happened and a link to the transaction on the block explorer. Every address and transaction on the page has a copy button next to it.

Moving stake to another validator

Redelegate on any row of My Delegations moves stake straight to another validator, in one transaction. No undelegating, no unbonding period, no seven days of earning nothing.

The form shows where the stake is leaving from, a list of the other validators to choose from, and the amount, with Max for the whole position.

What it costs

A small fee goes to the receiving validator, and the form shows the arithmetic before you sign it: what leaves the old validator, what the fee is, and what actually arrives at the new one. The fee is a governance parameter and is currently a fraction of a percent.

Compare that against the alternative. Undelegating and redelegating by hand costs you seven days of rewards on the whole amount, which is far more than the fee on all but the smallest positions.

What the form will not let you do

Move less than the minimum. The chain has a floor on a single delegation change, and the form says what it is.

Move stake to a jailed validator, unless it is your own. A jailed validator only accepts stake from its own operator, which exists so an operator can top its self delegation back up to get released.

Break your own self delegation. If you are an operator moving your own stake, the form refuses to take you below the minimum self delegation your validator needs to stay active.

After it lands

The stake is at the new validator immediately. Rewards start there from its next distribution, so there is a short gap rather than a seven day one.

The vote power switch works the same as it does when delegating: leave it on and the new validator votes with your stake in governance.

When to do it instead of undelegating

Redelegate when you want the stake staked, just somewhere else. Undelegate when you want the coins back in your wallet. Those are different questions, and only the second one is worth waiting seven days for.
