Vote on a proposal

What you need to vote, where the buttons are, and why they are sometimes not there.

Vote on a proposal

Voting is one transaction from your wallet. Nothing is held on your behalf and nothing leaves your address: the vote records the weight you already had.

What you need

  • A connected wallet. Press Connect Wallet at the top of the site.
  • Voting power at the snapshot block. Staking L2P gives you govL2P, and govL2P is what the governor counts. It is measured at the block the proposal opened at, so coins you staked after that block do not count for this vote. Coins you never staked carry no weight at any block. See Delegate and rewards.
  • A little L2P for gas. The vote is a transaction like any other.

Where the buttons are

Two places, and they do the same thing:

  • on the card of any active proposal on the overview page
  • in the Your vote panel on the proposal's own page

Both show your voting power for that proposal first, so you know what you are about to cast before you cast it.

For, Against, Abstain

Choice What it does
For Supports the proposal, and counts towards quorum
Against Opposes it, and counts towards quorum
Abstain Takes no side, but still counts towards quorum

Abstaining is not the same as not voting. A proposal that never reaches quorum fails no matter how the votes fell, so an abstention is a real contribution to the outcome.

Casting it

Select your choice, and your wallet asks you to sign one transaction. When it goes through, the site says so and gives you a link to the transaction on the block explorer, then reloads the tally and the voter list.

Your vote is final. The governor records one vote per address per proposal, and the site has no way to change or withdraw it. Once it is in, the panel reads You voted For, or Against, or Abstain, with the weight it carried.

The site casts a plain vote without a written reason. Reasons shown in the voter list came from voters who added one with other tooling.

Why there are no buttons

What you see Why
A prompt to connect your wallet You are reading while disconnected
No buttons at all The proposal is not Active. Voting has either not opened yet or has already closed
You have no voting power for this proposal You had no delegated L2P at the snapshot block. Delegating now will count for the next proposal, not this one
You voted For, or Against, or Abstain You already voted on this proposal

After voting

Nothing more is asked of you. If the proposal passes, someone still has to queue it and, once the timelock expires, execute it, and that someone can be anyone, including you. See Queue and execute a proposal.
